Much of our facial expression occurs in the brow/forehead region, conveying many emotions. However, our brow area may droop as we age, giving off a tired, sad, or angry appearance. Fortunately, a brow lift (or forehead lift) can bring a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above your eyes.
Benefits of a Forehead Lift
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that can help address the signs of aging on the forehead and brow region. It can help raise sagging eyebrows, soften horizontal brow lines, frown lines, and wrinkles that can occur on the bridge of the nose between the eyes.
Browlifts can also place the eyebrows in a more alert and youthful position, giving you a relaxed and natural appearance. The results of a brow lift can last up to 15 years, and with any surgery, there are risks such as infection and blood clots.
How Is a Brow Lift Performed?
A brow lift can be performed with or without an endoscope, an instrument that allows the plastic surgeon to view the muscles and tissues underneath the forehead skin. Using the endoscopic approach, small incisions are made in the hair-bearing scalp.
After elevating the brow and altering underlying muscles, the area is sutured snugly, and loose bandages are applied. Recovery time is relatively short; after recovery, you emerge with a more rested look.
Recovery and Risks
Temporary swelling, numbness, headaches, and bruising are common side effects of a forehead lift. Pain is minimal and relieved with oral medications for the first day or two. Bruising and swelling subside in seven to 14 days. Traditional methods can also cause itching and hair loss, which are typically minor.
Scars will fade considerably over time and are hidden by the hair. Back to work usually takes two to three days, and full recovery from bruising takes two to three weeks. More strenuous activity should be avoided for several weeks, and sun exposure should be limited for several months.
