There are some popular surgical and non-surgical ways to improve the appearance of the eyes. Read on to learn more about these options.

Eyelid Surgery

Your eyes are usually the first area of the face to show the signs of aging. The skin on our eyelids and around our eyes is among the thinnest skin on the body, which means it feels the effects of sun damage and other environmental concerns, in addition to sagging from aging.

If you feel you looked more tired or older than you are, then eyelid surgery may be right for you. Also called blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery can be done on upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both. On the upper eyelids, excess skin from sagging lids will be removed. Underlying muscles are tightened. Fat may be repositioned or removed. On the lower eyelids, bags can be significantly improved. The ligament may be tightened, and extra skin removed as well.

There are many benefits to eyelid surgery. Among them are the results. Patients will find the results are subtle and people will tell them they look younger and revitalized but not know why or how. Hidden scars are another benefit as incisions made in the upper eyelid are made in the crease of the lid, while incisions made on the lower lid are made at or behind the lash line.

Botox

Botox is the most popular cosmetic treatment of its kind in the world, treating frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines and more. Botox, or botulinum toxin type A, is a purified protein complex that is specially formulated to inject into the skin safely and effectively. The injections work by blocking the nerve signals that cause a muscle to contract and form a line or wrinkle in the skin above. These are dynamic wrinkles and appear when making facial expressions such as squinting or frowning.

Botox treatment takes a few minutes. Results appear in a few days and last for about four months. At that time, you’ll want to return for additional treatment to maintain results.
