How to Speed Up Your Tummy Tuck Recovery

Tummy Tuck Salt Lake City & Draper UT If you’re self-conscious about your tummy area, you may have considered a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). Abdominoplasty is one of the most intensive body contouring procedures out there. It’s a great procedure for those who have recently been through dramatic weight loss or pregnancy and have excess skin they’d like removed. If you’re considering abdominoplasty and are curious about ways to make your recovery more comfortable, continue reading. Keep in mind that our best advice is to follow your post-op instructions, but we’ve also gathered a few other tips to keep in mind to ensure you have a speedy and safe recovery.

Eat Healthy and Stay Hydrated

Food is fuel so be sure you’re eating healthy, nutrient-rich foods to aid in your recovery. Other than the obvious fruits and vegetables, try to incorporate more protein and healthy fats in your diet as well. Another recovery essential in addition to eating healthy is staying hydrated. Drink plenty of water before and after your procedure. If you’re not used to drinking lots of water, now is a great time to start.

Walk Around but Don’t Workout

While we do recommend you relax and don’t over-exert yourself, some walking is encouraged. When you feel up to it, try to walk about 20 to 30 minutes a day to get your heart pumping and blood circulating again.

Rest Up

It’s paramount that you are resting and sleeping as much as possible immediately following surgery as well as the first couple of days. Healing takes place while you sleep so prepare a place to rest and relax before your surgery to ensure you can focus on recovery and relaxation in this first few hours post-op.

Wear the Recommended Compression Garments

Swelling is a normal side effect following your procedure. We recommend wearing a girdle or binder for additional support during the healing process. Remember to wear this compression garment even while you sleep.

Be Realistic

Keep your expectations realistic following your surgery. Though recovery time may seem painful and long, keep in mind the results and goals that you’re looking forward to. Follow your post-op instructions as closely as possible. However, if you are experiencing unexpected pain or unusual symptoms, please give our office a call immediately.
